News Release: Massillon Museum to Collaborate for Horse Fun Day

Nickajack Farms will hold a Horse Fun Day on Saturday, April 15, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. As part of the NEA Big Read, the Massillon Museum encourages individuals ages five and older to join the activities—riding, games, trivia, crafts, learning, and more. Horses play an important role in this year’s book selection,True Grit by Charles Portis.

To register ($40 per person), visit nickajackfarms.com/funday. Nickajack Farms is located at 2773 Manchester Avenue, N.W., North Lawrence.

Horse Fun Day is one of 30 public events scheduled in March and April to enhance enjoyment of reading True Grit. For a complete schedule, visitmassillonmuseum.org or stop at the Museum reception desk to pick up a bookmark that lists all the events.

Massillon is one of just 77 communities nationally to secure the program for the 2016–2017 grant cycle. The Massillon Museum is the only Ohio institution to receive a share of the funding for this grant cycle. The 2017 project marks the tenth year the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) has granted funding for the Massillon Museum’s ambitious participation.
The NEA Big Read, the largest federal literature program since the WPA, is an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts designed to restore reading to the center of American culture. NEA Big Read is a program of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest. The Big Read brings together partners across the country to encourage reading for pleasure and enlightenment.

In addition to the NEA grant, funding is provided by Massillon/North Canton Elks #2029, Rotary Club of Massillon, and ArtsinStark. The Massillon Museum receives operating support from the Ohio Arts Council and ArtsinStark to augment its primary local funding.

For more information about the NEA Big Read, call the Massillon Museum at 330-833-4061 or visit massillonmuseum.org or NEABigRead.org. A visit to the Massillon Museum is always free.
